In the heart of Billings, Montana, Micayla D'Ambrosia is weaving more than just chunky yarn blankets—she’s weaving a story of resilience, creativity, and community. A Humble Beginning

Grown Cozy was born in the fall of 2021, during a time when Micayla was navigating the emotional and mental challenges of postpartum anxiety and depression. In search of an outlet, she stumbled upon the trend of chunky yarn blankets on TikTok. What began as a frustrating crafting experiment quickly became a therapeutic escape and, eventually, a business that would capture the hearts of her community.

“I absolutely hated it at first,” Micayla laughs, recalling her initial attempt at making a blanket with a friend. But after sharing her creation on social media, she was met with an outpouring of support and requests from friends and family. Motivated by their enthusiasm, she continued to create, and with each blanket, her confidence and skill grew.

The Leap from Hobby to Business

In the spring of 2022, Micayla took a bold step and participated in her first craft market—a decision that would change everything. With only six blankets and a simple table display, she discovered her love for connecting with people and sharing her creations in person. The experience reignited her passion and opened her eyes to the potential of turning her hobby into a business.

Her second market that summer was a pivotal moment. She completely sold out, validating that her products resonated with customers. From there, she began investing back into her business, improving her market display, expanding her product line, and building a loyal customer base.

Transitioning from hobbyist to business owner wasn’t without its challenges. Micayla grappled with pricing her products appropriately, balancing affordability for customers with fair compensation for her time and effort. She also navigated the task of finding the right craft markets that aligned with her target audience.

Building a Business with Purpose

What sets Grown Cozy apart is not just the quality of the products but the heart behind them. Micayla’s creations range from blankets to stuffed animals and seasonal decor, allowing her to operate year-round and cater to different price points. In 2024, she took another big step by building her dream workspace—a “She Shed” in her backyard that serves as her creative haven for production, content creation, and shipping.

For Micayla, the true driving force behind Grown Cozy is deeper than financial success. Having experienced the isolating emotions of postpartum anxiety, she is passionate about showing other moms that those feelings are temporary and that finding something that fulfills them outside of motherhood can be life-changing.

“I want moms to see me and know that those feelings don’t last forever,” she says. “You can pursue your passions, build something meaningful, and still be a great mom.”

As Grown Cozy continues to flourish, Micayla remains committed to creativity and community. With a growing product line, a dedicated customer base, and a supportive family by her side, she is excited to see where this journey takes her.
