Marketing and Meaning: Keely Morrison’s Business Story
May 29, 2025 •Anya Wells

When Keely Morrison launched her social media management agency, Planina Social, she wasn’t just starting a business. She was stepping into a deeper mission. Based in Missoula, Montana, Keely partners with nonprofits to help them share their stories, connect with their communities, and grow their impact through social media.
Her journey started in 2019 when she began managing social media for a nonprofit right before the pandemic hit. At the time, she loved social media but was aware of its negative reputation. That experience changed everything. She saw how powerful social media could be when used with intention and heart. That shift in perspective led her to build a business around helping nonprofits harness the good in social media.
Creativity at the Core
Keely’s creative background plays a major role in her work. She’s been taking art classes since childhood and continues to draw and paint in her free time. Creativity is not just a skill for her, it’s part of who she is. Bringing that into her business makes every project personal and meaningful.
Alongside creativity, Keely brings a strong sense of organization to her clients. She keeps everything structured and clear, creating systems that help nonprofits stay on top of their content without having to manage it themselves. From setting up shared Google Drives to building custom content calendars, she makes the process seamless. Each client decides how involved they want to be, and Keely adapts to meet their needs.
Overcoming the Fear of Starting
Like many entrepreneurs, Keely faced self-doubt in the beginning. She had the idea for Planina Social in 2020 but delayed launching because every step felt intimidating.
Everything changed when she joined a launch camp hosted by the Bucket List Bombshells. They helped her break things down into manageable steps and provided the accountability she needed. With their support, she finally turned her idea into a real business.
Keely also found strength through community. The Rocky Mountain Women’s Business Center provided not only resources but also a welcoming environment where women could connect and support one another. Even when it felt uncomfortable to speak up in virtual meetings, the encouragement she received helped her build confidence and find her footing as a business owner.
Growing a Business and Finding Freedom
Keely launched her business in March and by July she had matched her full-time salary. She attributes much of this success to showing up consistently online and creating content that reflects her values and the needs of her clients.
While the financial growth was exciting, the freedom meant even more. Running her own business gave her flexibility, whether that meant having more choice in where she lived or planning for a future with children. She realized that entrepreneurship could offer a kind of freedom that a traditional nine-to-five job rarely provides.
Aligning with Purpose
Most of Keely’s clients are nonprofits, but she also works with values-driven businesses that align with her mission. One of her newest clients is a nutritionist group in Bozeman that promotes an anti-diet, body positive message. As someone who struggled with body image in high school, this work feels deeply personal. Social media played a role in her past struggles, and now she gets to be part of changing the narrative for others.
